Welcome

I'm Jack, and I'll be writing on here to share my thoughts about where I am or what I'm working on.

About

Welcome to my public blog.

Here I’ll record memories, take notes, and share things that you could find useful or interesting. My first posts are from 2018, so you have a unique chance to see the trajectory of my life and thinking.

Each page is a living document which I may change at any time as I fix errors, find new information, or just want to expand on something. All pages may be created, updated, or deleted with no record of changes. Someday I will add updated_at metadata so you can see when posts were last changed, but for now it’s on you to archive pages in waybackmachine.

I want my writing to serve three purposes:

  1. Discovery: Anyone reading this will be exposed things to which they may be interested in, even if my writing is just a vehicle for them to find something I reference.
  2. Education: I hope that my unique experiences and background can teach you something. I always find joy when reading a webpage (eg Language Log) and later the information has relevance in my life and work. This entire site is worth the time if one person finds joy in learning something from what I’ve written.
  3. Self-Reflection: Most theories of the learning cycle involve reflection, and journaling is a good way to do that.

I’ve since looked back at some of my earlier posts and thought it was cringe or written from a fundamentally incorrect perspective, but you and I have the privilege of seeing the process. Cringe is better than inaction!

This site is made using hugo, git, and love. It started with me ssh’ing into a VM from internet cafes in china and editing a git repo using vim on tmux, but nowadays I’m usually using VSCode on a laptop or Working Copy on my phone.

The blog template was originally created by Xzya but has been heavily modified for my needs.
