2019-03-14: Busywork

Besides meeting a friend and a phone conversation at night, there’s not much to do besides busywork.

I’m sitting in “Brewed” cafe on Brady, going through all my photos from China. These also include lots of screenshots – Whenever I am on my phone and see something I’d like to look at later, I take a screenshot. But I never have a chance to look at these until I review them in a batch one or twice a year. Therefore, you’ll be seeing a lot of content in the “Things I’m Liking” section.

There’s also taxes to look into… Instead of the usual turbotax, I’m determined to file these manually in order to learn the details and motivations of this complicated tax system.

Things I’m Liking

  • songsterr: A better, more open guitar tab website.
  • Building a Better Deal with China: Essay about the changing dynamics between the US and China.
  • Vampire: The Masquerade - L.A. By Night: A well-produced “actual play” of the tabletop roleplaying game “Vampire: the Masquerade,” likely inspired by Critical Roll.
  • Uncanny Magazine: Contemporary science fiction magazine, including a lot of translated Chinese scifi.
  • A quote by Shao Fan: “Art to me is like a pearl in a clam or agar on wood. Both arise involuntarily, and are the result of endless repairs and compensations.” (“艺术对于我就是蚌中的珍珠,或树上的沉香。她们都是对‘无奈’产生了无休止修复和补偿的结果。”)
  • Lu Yang: Maximalist Beijing artist, nice website.
