I’ve enjoyed Anne Helen’s “the collected ahp” which is a weekly newsletter that resembles what I’ve been doing here. There’s usually a weekly article about some topic, followed by a “Things I’m Liking” section (in her case “Some Things I Read and Loved This Week.”) Maybe it’s better to transition towards that. We’ll see next weekend if I’ve been successful.

Ideally, I’d have some more longform informative information to post – more “article with links and misc” less “blog,” and more aforementioned “the collected ahp” less “martinshkreli.com.”

Work

I continue to take on more varied responsibilities, from business development to translating a book, or working on a project and ordering office supplies. This “generalism” is where I’d like to be for now, so over the next year I can find which niche I can work best with. As I order business cards, I’m considering not having a title. What harm could it cause?

Things I’m Liking

  • Ten Simple Rules for Better Figures: Ten tips for creating better figures. A good read with lots of example figures.
  • εžδΉ‹η³οΌšζ–η« : A really descriptive short poem that plays with perspective, and something even beginning Mandarin learners could memorize and recite. The English translation: You stand on the bridge looking at scenery, the people looking at scenery upstairs look at you. The bright moon decorates your window, you decorate other people’s dreams." Found this in a contemporary literature textbook I brought back from China, δΈε›½ηŽ°δ»£ζ–‡ε¦δ½œε“η²Ύι€‰η¬¬δΈ‰η‰ˆ.

Misc

Just as I get my first significant paycheck, have a desire to waste my time on video games, and come back from China, Creative Assembly’s Total War: Three Kingdoms came out. It’s $60, but I’m not sure if it will run on my laptop (which my sister found on the side of the road). It’s a fortunate period of time for me to be interested in China – The Chinese middle class grows quickly, and with it comes the growth of Chinese-themed media.
