The following are things I enjoy and think you will find interesting. Linking to these websites does not indicate my association or agreement with their contents and opinions.
Language Log - A frequently-updated blog with posts by talented linguists and in-depth articles. The article on those chinese memes with many repeated characters helped me understand them.
Lyn Alden: “equity research and investment strategies to give you the insight and data you need for managing your money through all market conditions”. She has a portfolio for her blog.
Chinese Text Project - Open access library of pre-modern chinese texts. Includes side-by-side translations, commentary with dynamic links to citations, active discussion, a dictionary, scanned source texts, a vast wiki, and plenty of metadata.
Internet Sacred Text Archive - An archive of books about religion, mythology, folklore, and the esoteric. “This is a quiet place in cyberspace devoted to religious tolerance and scholarship” and is “Open Source for the Human Soul.”
Chinafile - An online magazine published by the Center on U.S.-China Relations at Asia Society. Has some quality content from experienced China scholars.
xkcd - The standard for webcomics. You haven’t already heard of it?
podcasts
Indie Hackers Podcast (rss) - The indie version of the YC podcast. “Raw conversations with the founders behind profitable online businesses.”
Sinica Network Podcasts - Podcasts about China by people knowledgable about the country. Great interviews with powerful people. I particularly like the Business Brief.
The Joe Rogan Experience (rss) - A well produced talk show featuring a variety of guests. Topics have included sleep science, MMA, psychedelics, army rangers, and more. Episodes usually go for 2-3 hours and are published a few times a week. Errs on the side of masculinity and “anti-SJW” rightism.
YC Podcast - A podcast by the incubator Y Combinator. Features interesting interviews with talented people.
General Intellect Unit (rss) - “Podcast of the Cybernetic Marxists. Examining the intersection of Technology, (Left) Politics and Philosophy.” Obviously leftist and has good discussions by discussing texts on the show.
The China History Podcast - A fantastic host discusses chinese history. I highly recommend his episodes on Chinese Philosophy and the history of tea.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms Podcast - John Zhu tells you a classic chinese story, the “Romance of the Three Kingdoms.” He’ll soon be doing a retelling of Water Margin, another classic. As the saying goes, ε°δΈθ―»ζ°΄ζ΅οΌθδΈθ―»δΈε½ – The young shouldn’t read Water Margin, the old shouldn’t read Three Kingdoms.
misc
okmij - A collection of text about functional programming. Mostly over my head.
